Password-On-The-Command-Line Suppression
Option YK/370 supports the password-on-the-command-line suppression system generation option through which an installation may now prevent
disclosure of virtual machine and minidisk passwords to unauthorized
personnel. This is accomplished by disallowing passwords entered on the same line as LOGON/AUTOLOG and LINK commands. When this option is
selected, passwords must be entered so that they are not displayed (as
is the case with the 3270 display family) or so that they are typed upon
a .ask (as is the case with the 2141 terminal) If this option is
chosen, installation users are not able to include passwords on the same line as their LOGON/AUTOLOG and LINK commands. A virtual machine may also request CP to perform this same service
for LINK and AUTOLOG commands passed to CP from a virtual machine via
the DIAGNOSE X'8' instruction by turning on the high order bit in By (the length register) e CMS has also been modified to request
suppression of passwords for LINK and AUTOLOG co •• ands entered at the
terminal. Password suppression is not required by CftS for LINK or AUTOLOG commands entered from a module or EXEC. The password-on-the-command-line suppression option is system generation time by the new SYSJBL macro instruction.
